El punto principal de la visita fue la estupenda ciudad de Iglesias que, como su propio nombre indica, de ellas tiene unas cuantas. Es una ciudad agradable, con un casco hist\u00f3rico bien cuidado, y unos restaurantes estupendos donde degustar la gastronom\u00eda local. Por la tarde visitamos la Gruta de San Giovanni, una maravilla de la naturaleza, que destaca por tener una verdadera carretera construida en su interior que se utiliz\u00f3 hasta hace bien poco, lo que la convierte en la gruta transitable m\u00e1s larga del mundo, con un recorrido de 860 metros de camino interior, visita que se puede hacer a pie o en bicicleta.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1s tarde, tras la visita, nos dirigimos a la playa de Fontanamare, en la cercana Gonessa, donde disfrutamos de un rato de sol, ba\u00f1o, y una maravillosa puesta de sol en una playa de aguas cristalinas y fina arena dorada. La playa tiene una longitud de 1270 metros y un ancho promedio de aproximadamente 25 metros, y est\u00e1 flanqueada por un pintoresco pinar que se extiende a lo largo de gran parte de la costa, proporcionando sombra y un agradable contraste con el azul del mar.<\/p>\n<p>Uno de los elementos m\u00e1s distintivos de Fontanamare es la presencia de restos de su pasado minero. La antigua fundici\u00f3n minera, ahora en desuso, se alza como un testimonio silencioso de la actividad industrial que una vez domin\u00f3 la zona. Entre estos vestigios, destaca la imponente chimenea, un hito vertical que se eleva sobre el paisaje costero, recordando a los visitantes la historia y el patrimonio industrial de la regi\u00f3n. Cerca de la playa se encuentra el canal de Umberto I, una obra de ingenier\u00eda hidr\u00e1ulica destinado a drenar las zonas pantanosas cercanas, que fue construido en el a\u00f1o 1875.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>On August 17, we visited the southwestern part of Sardinia. The main highlight of the visit was the wonderful city of Iglesias which, as its name suggests, has quite a few churches. It&#8217;s a pleasant city with a well-maintained historic center and excellent restaurants where you can taste the local cuisine. In the afternoon, we visited the San Giovanni Cave, a natural wonder that stands out for having an actual road built inside it that was used until quite recently, making it the longest traversable cave in the world, with an interior path of 860 meters that can be explored on foot or by bicycle.<br \/>\nIn the afternoon, after the visit, we headed to Fontanamare beach in nearby Gonnesa, where we enjoyed some sun, swimming, and a wonderful sunset on a beach with crystal-clear waters and fine golden sand. The beach is 1270 meters long and has an average width of approximately 25 meters, and is flanked by a picturesque pine forest that extends along much of the coast, providing shade and a pleasant contrast to the blue sea.<br \/>\nOne of the most distinctive elements of Fontanamare is the presence of remnants from its mining past. The old mining foundry, now disused, stands as a silent testimony to the industrial activity that once dominated the area. Among these vestiges, the imposing chimney stands out, a vertical landmark that rises above the coastal landscape, reminding visitors of the region&#8217;s history and industrial heritage.
