El complejo incluye un campamento militar romano que data de entre los a\u00f1os 69 y 79 d.C. Este asentamiento fue establecido como base de operaciones para la construcci\u00f3n de la V\u00eda Nova, una calzada romana que conectaba las ciudades de Braga y Astorga. El yacimiento se considera uno de los campamentos romanos mejor conservados de la pen\u00ednsula ib\u00e9rica.<\/p>\n<p>El campamento ocupa una superficie de 2,5 hect\u00e1reas y presenta una estructura rectangular rodeada por una muralla con torres defensivas. En su interior se han identificado diversas estructuras, incluyendo el cuartel general (principia), graneros (horrea), un hospital (valetudinarium), barracones para los soldados y un sistema de calles y desag\u00fces. Adem\u00e1s del campamento, el yacimiento comprende una mansi\u00f3n-viaria y termas naturales, proporcionando informaci\u00f3n sobre diferentes aspectos de la presencia romana en la regi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>La unidad militar estacionada en Aquis Querquennis era la Cohors III Quinquenaria Equitata, perteneciente a la Legio VII G\u00e9mina. Esta cohorte mixta contaba con aproximadamente 600 efectivos, incluyendo tanto infanter\u00eda como caballer\u00eda.
