—————–
On January 2nd, we visited the archaeological site of Torreparedones, located between the Cordobese towns of Castro del Río and Baena, where we had an excellent day that I took advantage of to make a drone recording of the site. The recording was made with a DJI Mini 3 Pro.
The archaeological site of Torreparedones, also known as Castro el Viejo or Torre de las Vírgenes, is a fascinating historical enclave situated between the municipalities of Baena and Castro del Río, in the province of Córdoba. This impressive site, inhabited for about 3,500 years from the late Neolithic period until the 16th century, reached its peak of splendor during the Iberian and Roman eras. Some media have even called it the «Pompeii of Córdoba» due to the richness and relevance of its archaeological findings.

At the heart of the ancient Roman city lies the forum, the nerve center of public life, which occupied an area of 528 m² and was surrounded by porticos with columns. Next to it are emblematic buildings such as the market (macellum) and the thermal baths, essential in the daily lives of its inhabitants.

One of the most significant elements of the site is the Ibero-Roman sanctuary, located to the south and outside the city walls. In this sacred place, hundreds of stone-carved ex-votos have been discovered, offerings dedicated to the deity worshipped there, identified as Dea Caelestis. This sanctuary, which was in use from the 3rd century BC until the 2nd century AD, was famous for its healing powers and attracted devotees seeking favors related to fertility and health.

Although it has not yet been excavated, georadar studies have revealed the existence of a large Roman amphitheater, which underlines the importance of this city in antiquity. The site also includes remains of a medieval castle, a testament to its strategic importance in later periods.

While the exact name of the Roman city remains a mystery, researchers suggest it could be the colony of Ituci Virtus Iulia, mentioned by Pliny the Elder. Torreparedones was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2007 and opened to the public in 2011, and continues to surprise with new discoveries, offering a unique window into more than 5,000 years of history in the Cordobese countryside.
———

Música:
The Fury by Scott Buckley | https://soundcloud.com/scottbuckley
Music promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.com
Creative Commons / Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)
https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

———

#dron #drone #cordoba #djimini3pro

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[10
192,367,537,551,1655

post-5746","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-espana-a-vista-de-dron","tag-baena","tag-castro-del-rio","tag-dji-mini-3-pro","tag-dron","tag-torreparedones
["GET
